Engineered Hardwood

Unique in every sense of the word, our engineered wood flooring is perfect anywhere. Its versatility and timeless appeal make it a perfect match with any decor, from the basement to the bedroom. Available in various wood species in a range of tasteful tones, it fosters a sense of inner well being that distills comfort to its very essence. An engineered hardwood floor is comprised of several layers; the top layer is real hardwood, which means the floor you stand on is the same genuine hardwood you always dreamed of owning. With the help of the remaining layers which have been specially designed for maximum practicality, engineered hardwood has several advantages over solid hardwood flooring. Because the other layers in an engineered hardwood floor are made of plywood or high density fiberboard, the engineered hardwood resists the tendency of solid hardwood to expand and contract with changes in humidity and temperature. Engineered hardwood flooring can also be installed over radiant heat. Where this choice is usually actively discouraged by experienced installers due to solid hardwood’s more sensitive nature, it is not a problem with engineered hardwood flooring.

Benefits of Wood Floors- No other flooring offers the warmth, beauty, and value of wood. Wood flooring enhances the décor of any room, and provides timeless beauty that will increase in value throughout the years. In fact, in a national survey of real estate agents, 90 percent said that houses with wood flooring sell faster and for higher prices than houses without wood floors.

Ease of Maintenance- Today’s wood floors are easy! New technology in stains and finishes call for regular cleaning that takes little more than sweeping and/or vacuuming, with occasional use of a professional wood floor cleaning product. You will want to use a cleaning product recommended by your flooring manufacturer, installer, or other wood flooring professional. This will ensure that you use the proper cleaner for your type of flooring and finish. Mack Contracting provides the correct cleaner in a special cleaning kit as a bonus for every installation.

Ecological- Wood floors are ecologically friendly. Since it is a natural resource, wood is both renewable and recyclable. Many of yesteryear’s old wood ships, warehouses, barns, and other structures often find a second life in wood flooring. And, because wood does not collect dust and other allergens, many leading health associations agree that wood floors are the perfect choice for a healthy home.

Affordable- Today’s wood floors are affordable. Over time, wood floors maintain their value. When other flooring options are looking tired and worn out, wood floors will still look beautiful and timeless.

Variety- Wood floors have come a long way in the past few years. Today, there are more styles, colors and species of wood flooring available than ever before. Whether you’re looking for traditional Oak, rustic Pine, exotic Wangi or trendy Bamboo, you’re sure to find a color and style to fit your décor.

What to Expect- Once you’ve decided to install or refinish a wood floor, you may wonder what will happen next. Knowing what to expect before, during, and after the work takes place will help ensure a high-quality job.

Before work begins, remove all furnishings, draperies, paintings, and other items from the room. Flooring professionals typically are not insured against damages to these items, so removal will be your responsibility. Special arrangements can be made with Mack Contracting. Consult with sales person. For new installations, the wood will need to acclimate, which will vary from two days to two weeks. If your floors are being sanded, finished or refinished, be prepared for some noise and disruption. Dust containment systems can minimize debris, but no system is 100% effective, so cover any items that you want to keep dust-free. When the finish is applied, stay off your floors until it has dried. The time required will vary depending on the type of finish used.

After the finish has dried, put felt pads on the bottoms of any furniture to minimize scratches and dents. Place scatter rugs at all entrances, avoiding those with rubber backs, which can discolor your floor. Avoid walking on your floors with cleats or high heels in disrepair.

Keep in mind that no two floor boards will be identical. Variations in appearance are completely normal. As your floor ages, some color change can occur. This also is normal, but can be minimized by limiting exposure to direct sunlight, and periodically moving furniture and rugs. Cracks are normal as well, and will appear and disappear between floor boards during seasons of high and low humidity. Generally, anything less than the width of a dime is considered normal, and will correct itself as seasons change. Flooring inspectors recommend inspecting the floor from a standing position in normal lighting to identify irregularities.
Finally, keep your wood floors looking their best by properly maintaining them. Use a cleaning product recommended for your floors and uses it regularly to keep them looking beautiful for years to come.

Botanically bamboo– is not a wood at all, but rather a grass. And like grass, it has a short growth cycle of approximately five years, depending on the variety. As a result, bamboo is considered a highly renewable and sustainable product that saves our ever dwindling hardwood forest.

Availability- there are two main colors to choose from: Natural (light) and Amber (dark). Some manufacturers offer a variety of colors. Check with us Mack Contracting for details. Natural reflects the color of the bamboo. When Bamboo is smoked, the carbonized grains take on a color that is darker throughout. This is not a stain, but rather the result of the smoking process. The resulting color is an Amber hue. Bamboo is available in both a vertical-grained orientation as well as a horizontal (face)-grained orientation. In the vertical-grain, the individual nodes are hard to discern. In the horizontal-grained, each individual node is visible with about 4 node strands apparent per piece. Both orientations offer the same strength characteristics. Personal preference is the main reason for picking a particular orientation.
